Voldie: he knows what's good
November 19, 2011
Voldie made it all the way to Seattle to visit my friend Aidan and will soon be up to all kinds of adventures. For now, however, he's just kicking it back and staying as hydrated as sugary soda can possibly get him.Doesn't he look vicious?
I also sent a couple 'Nauts to the twins Aidan nannies for -- very curious to see what they come up with. Kids can always be trusted with creative things. Adults on the other hand... ;)
Speaking of children, Lippy, unfortunately, is still AWOL. I sent her to a young girl and I believe she has fallen in love wants to keep her. I've offered to send her another but have heard nothing back. Lippy may be lost to us forever.
And Lotze arrived in Mexico! Here he is at the abandoned ""Hacienda de Cholul" outside of the city of Merida. The perfect setting for a zombie 'Naut -- Lotze looks very much at home.
Elphaba's on the road
November 5, 2011
Horseback riding - one of Elphaba's aspirations! I'm sure she'll endure whatever sort of crazy core-training machine this is if it means she'll finally get to learn to gallop.
Lippy also arrived at her destination -- Seattle! Though, the little girl I sent her to is going to have to be persuaded to send her on. I think she's become attached. ;)
It's properly autumn here now. My university started back up, leaves are all bright orange and yellow (or on the ground) and they've started selling Glühwein in little booths around the city and on campus. It reminds me that the holidays are coming. :)
Which means... soon I have to start thinking about presents. Hmm.
Contest! - ends November 5th
October 23, 2011
Your task: This mohawked, launch-day Sockonaut needs a name. You're only allowed to enter once!
The winner will be randomly selected sometime on November 5.
Whoever wins will have his or her name chosen and will receive the Sockonaut -- either to keep, or send on another adventure!
Good luck!
Launch Day!
So, this is it! After many long, tedious months of nearly catching my finger in the sewing machine, overwritten CSS files, and "WHY IS THIS NOT WORKING?" -- Sockonauts.com is offically running! I'm pretty excited about it and am looking forward to seeing what people come up with. Everyone has a mad creative side just waiting to burst out and crafting a Sockonaut is dead easy. I mean, just look at this:Rames had never used a needle and thread in his life but yesterday he sat down and created Lotze -- it's a half zombie, half vampire Sockonaut and I think it may be the first in our "The Walking Dead" theme, depending on how many Zombie Sockonauts are submitted.
Anyone can make a zombie Sockonaut, friends. The worse it looks, the better it is. You can't go wrong!
Here is the Sockonaut tutorial if anyone wants to give it a go.
Anyway, I start back up at University tomorrow which most likely just means I'm going to post here more often in an attempt to procrastinate. That's how I roll. x
A Milestone
October 17, 2011
Today, I packed up and mailed the first 3 Sockonauts - thus, the real beta-testing phase has begun. As no one really knows about this website yet, I chose random friends of mine who I know should show the 'Nauts a good time and then report back to me how everything went. Hopefully well! While I can deal with bugs and weird website issues, it would be terrible if my first 3 went AWOL -- I was already a tiny bit sad as I put them in the envelopes today. Rames was laughing, but I kept taking Lippy back out and patting her fondly. Before I packed anyone up, however, I took a "first generation" group picture! I can honestly say, this was the first time during this whole process where I thought to myself, "You know, if anyone was watching you right now, they might think you are unhinged." I was posing them around the sewing machine, talking to them by name, complaining that Lord Anthony has a weird bum and wouldn't sit up right.
It's not his fault. He was bullied at school.
My university starts back up again next week -- clearly I have been left idle too long.
Now that "The Walking Dead" is back on and Halloween is right around the corner, I've started thinking about creating some Zombie Sockonauts... but I sort of have my hands full with the ones I've made already -- perhaps I can find someone else up to the task before we launch the site around Halloween. It would be SO FUN, though. Gashes, wounds, and button-eyes half hanging off.
Anyone up for it?
Hello!
October 2, 2011
I've been trying to decide what the purpose of this blog shall be and I still haven't really came up with anything besides GENERAL NEWSIE UPDATES which is a very vague idea and also sounds like I'll be blogging about homeless, yet rather enterprising newsboys (which might not be a bad idea, all things considered) -- but I decided to just go ahead and post something, anyway. Perhaps after a few updates I'll become inspired.
I received a sock donation the other day.
The mother of the children I nanny for went through the kids' cupboard and gave me all of the pairs which either no longer fit or had become a bit too worn for her taste. It genuinely felt like winning the lottery -- I think she was actually alarmed about how pleased I was.
I've also stocked up on stuffing. The kiddos and I felt a bit like an anatomy lesson, surgically opened the chest of an old stuffed bear (who was falling apart anyway, may he rest in peace), and removed his entrails. I was initially worried that the children would be way too fond of the animal and wouldn't willingly part with him but they had a blast.
You can see a video of the gruesome murder here. :)
